CSSA SUMMER SCHOOL – 2025
The Cecchetti Society of Southern Africa will host a National Summer School at Hilton College, KwaZulu-Natal.
Dates: Saturday 6 – Friday 12 December 2025, inclusive. (Departure Saturday 13 December 2025).
GUEST TEACHING FACULTY
The guest faculty will include Ms. Diane van Schoor; Mr. Iain MacDonald; Ms. Angela Malan; Ms. Lynn Totham (Contemporary).
COURSE FEES
Regret no cash payments will be accepted.
Teachers:
Residential: R17,500.00
Non-Residential: R14,000.00.
Students:
Residential only: R15,400.00.
Non-refundable deposit: R5,000.00.

THE CYRIL BEAUMONT BURSARY AWARD COMPETITION
The Cyril Beaumont Bursary Award Competition and Finals will take place at Hilton College
Theatre, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, during Summer School, December 2025.
Entry forms, entry criteria and conditions of participation are available, on request, from Headquarters.
Entry fee: R750.00.
Closing date of entries: Friday 25 April 2025. (Regret, no late entries will be accepted).
Cyril Beaumont Preliminaries: Wednesday 10 December 2025.
Cyril Beaumont Finals: Thursday 11 December 2025.
REMEMBERING BARBARA FEWSTER

Please find below the details for a celebration of Barbara Fewster’s life on Tuesday 21st January 2025, including a live stream link for those who are unable to attend in person.
The service will be at St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden at 2pm, followed by a reception in the Linbury Foyer at the Royal Opera House.
The event will be live streamed. It will be possible to access the stream by going to St Paul’s Church YouTube channel using this link – the stream will appear on the YouTube page when it goes live.
Attached is a QR code. Donations will go towards the Royal Ballet School with a new Award being given in Barbara’s name in recognition of a student showing particular musicality – an attribute within a dancer that was close to Barbara’s heart.
Please do share these details with anyone you feel may wish to attend (either virtually or in person) to remember Barbara together.

THE CECCHETTI SOCIETY TRUST ANNUAL STUDY BURSARY FOR TEACHERS IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPORTANT INFORMATION INCLUSION OF LICENTIATE LEVEL FOR TEACHER STUDY BURSARY IN SOUTH AFRICA
Members have already been informed that The Cecchetti Society Trust UK, has generously made an annual Study Bursary available to teachers in South Africa who wish to progress their teaching qualification to the highest level. The Cecchetti Society Trust has decided to add the Licentiate level to the CSSA Teacher Study Bursary. Priority will be given to Fellowship and Enrico Cecchetti Diploma applicants, should Licentiate applications be received at the same time as Fellowship and Diploma applications. At the discretion of an appointed Bursary Selection Panel, a bursary may be shared or granted to more than one applicant.
- The application closing date is customarily 1st December for training to be undertaken in the following academic year. (Completed application forms to be forwarded to the CSSA Council of Management no later than 17 November of each year).
- The application form and terms & conditions are available directly from CSSA HQ.
- Applications will be reviewed by an appointed bursary selection panel.
- The total monetary value of the Bursary is fixed by the Trust each year and can be used for tuition fees, or the examination entry fee, or partly both.
- The total value of the Teacher Study Bursary is £1200 GBP [Approx. R28,000 ZAR].
CLOSING DATE FOR 2026 APPLICATIONS
Completed application forms should be submitted to the CSSA Council of Management no later than 17 November 2025.

CSSA MAGAZINE
Vital information is conveyed to members by means of bi-annual editions of the CSSA Magazine. The Magazine is uploaded to the CSSA website and available to paid-up members. Members are urged to remain au fait with all information provided.
PAYMENT OF ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
No later than 31 March 2025.
- Payments should be received by the CSSA HQ administration no later than 31 March annually.
- All CSSA members are required to remit subscription payments directly to CSSA.

NEW COMPETITION LEVELS
- There will be three competition levels.
- The competition will encompass a Junior, Senior and Pre-Professional division.
PREREQUISITES
- Junior Level: Ages 13 & 14, having passed Intermediate (or equivalent level nomenclature used by each organization).
- Senior Level: Ages 15, 16 & 17 having passed Advanced I (or equivalent level nomenclature used by each organization).
- Pre-Professional Level: 18, 19 & 20 having passed Advanced I (or equivalent level nomenclature used by each organization).
- Age and certification by the start of the competition.
- Be a student and not a professional dancer (i.e. anyone who is employed as a full-time dancer with a professional dance company. This includes dancers who are not currently employed but have been in the past).
- Entries are only permitted through the audition process of CICB corporate member

3. REGIONAL & NATIONAL COURSES
It is incumbent on Members to attend Regional and National courses in the interests of professional development, and for increasing skills, knowledge, and experience beyond the member’s initial training.
Members should attend all courses which are offered, not just the levels at which the member is currently teaching.
4. CSSA INFORMATION DIRECTIVE
The CSSA Information Directive is in the process of being updated. Members will be notified once the document is ready.
5. EXAMINATION DOCUMENTS & SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS
In terms of POPIA & DATA PROTECTION, candidates’ examination certificates, artistic examination reports and mark sheets are not permitted to be posted on social media.
6. CSSA MAGAZINE

11. RESULTS OF THE CYRIL BEAUMONT BURSARY AWARD COMPETITION 2023
The finalists of 2023 Cyril Beaumont competition were Meghan Klynveld (student of Karen Koen-Jooste, Cape Town); Lara Resente (student of Natali Roos/Elesia Ceronio, Pretoria) and Mizele Terre’Blanché (student of José Pretorius, Johannesburg).
The winner of the Cyril Beaumont Award was Megan Klynveld.

12. SELECTED COMPETITORS FOR THE 2024 CICB COMPETITION
The following dancers were selected, by audition process, to represent South Africa at the CICB Competition in 2024:
